Wedding Videography:

Some Important Questions

Article provided by Cristina Cassidy Productions, LLC

You’ve picked out the dress, the tux, the location, the flowers--you’ve even picked out the still photographer. Now you ask yourself: Do we really need a video of the wedding?

I’m a wedding videographer. Of course, I’m going to say “yes,” but not for the reasons you may think.

How often do you watch videos on a daily basis? Chances are quite a bit. And nowadays, with Facebook and YouTube and Twitter, people are sharing videos all the time. Video is here to stay, and wedding videos are more popular than ever. You are probably going to want to share video images of your wedding with friends and family.

You need to ask yourself another important question: Do we need a a professional videographer to film our wedding? Can’t Uncle Harry do it, or cousin Jimmy who just graduated from film school?

Sure. But here’s an even more crucial question. Will someone who isn’t a professional know the kinds of shots to get and when to get them? And what if the amateur messes up on of the most important days of your life? What then?

Someone who is a professional videographer not only has the right equipment, but also knows the nuances of weddings, exactly what kind of coverage you need of the event, and what to do when things don’t always go according to plan. In other words, they know how to shoot your wedding the right way.

Plus, a good videographer will sit down with you before the wedding and talk to you about the entire event. They will ask you about the style of your wedding and what kind of video you have in mind. They will take a personal interest in all the things you have planned and make sure that they have a clear idea about what they will be filming. They also will have something called a “shot list” that they prepare beforehand so that they are sure they will capture all the special moments that take place from start to finish.

Usually, it takes two people to video a wedding properly. Often, two cameras are used to shoot the ceremony. In addition, it is important that your videographers have good communication skills, so that when they do on-camera interviews with your friends and family, the results will be top quality.

If you do decide to use a friend or relative to shoot your wedding, please make sure that you sit down with them and give them a specific outline of everything you want them to get on video. Also, be sure they have something they can show you to prove that they know how to use a camera. Again, someone can be a fairly good videographer and not know how to shoot a wedding.

Whatever you decide, I hope this article has been helpful in making that decision. Here’s wishing you a wonderful wedding full of joy, laughter, and love!
