Grooming

Consider all of your hairstyle options.
It is less common for men to opt for special wedding hairstyles on their wedding day. But it is advisable for the groom to book in with a consultation at his hairdresser or stylist a couple of months out from the wedding. That way, if he decides to try a refresher to his usual style there will be time for him to grow his hair out a little.

A softer, natural look to hair continues to be the trend for men. Whether you have curls or straight hair, a great hair cut is the essential starting point. Product should be used only to enhance the natural shape of your hair (and only applied sparingly to dry hair) and should not be used to force false part lines.

If you are starting to recede or thin, the best option is a very short cut, even a shave. It’s still best to get this done by a professional.
A little bit of colour is permitted. Either to blend grey in darker hair or to add some very subtle highlights to fair hair.
You can both look at male wedding hairstyles you admire and take pictures into your regular stylist – they will be honest about what is and isn’t possible with his hair.

Grooming tips before the wedding

4-6 weeks ahead:
A dental check up, followed by regular brushing and flossing. A daily face cleansing routine (a consultation with a specialist from CK, YSL or your favorite skin care brand can help with this). If you wears glasses or contact lenses, you should decide which you will wear on the day and get comfortable with wearing them for long stretches.

2-4 weeks ahead:
A facial will slough off any dead or tired skin and make the most of your cleansing routine. Treat any particular issues such as skin blemishes or dandruff. Now is the time to reduce alcohol and caffeine intake so you are refreshed and relatively toxin free for your wedding day.

The week before:
If you are interested in any hair removal, this is the time. It can be as minor as a nasal trim or eyebrow shape or as major as a back wax. It depends totally on your comfort levels. The last thing you want to do is a treatment you do not want. You should book your final hairdressing appointment this week and remember to get a recommended product for the wedding day so you can recreate your style.

On the wedding day:
Regular cleansing routine along with a close, razor shave. Full brush, floss and rinse. You should wash your hair and apply a small amount of product if necessary for your style. A neutral deodorant and chosen fragrance should both be applied before you get dressed.

Make sure you and your groomsmen have a dressing plan on the day. If they need assistance with anything from wedding hairstyles to bow ties or cummerbunds they must have either attended rehearsals before hand or have someone professional to help them on the day.
