Of Course, Your Gown Belongs in a Box After the Wedding.Or Does It?
The wedding is over, you've had all the photos taken and the video is done. Time to put that dress away for years and years in hopes that somebody might wear it again someday. Or you can have it made into an evening gown or sell it on eBay. Or...you can do something that many trendy brides are getting into. It's called "Trash the Dress" and it is taking the country by storm. The phrase is a bit daunting the first time you hear it. "Gosh, I've spent hundreds, maybe thousands on this dress," you think to yourself. "Why would I want to 'trash' it?" That's just it. You don't really.
How Exactly Do You "Trash the Dress"?
"Trashing the Dress" means that a few days or weeks after the ceremony the bride wears her gown again, only this time she has photos or video taken in some place creative--say, at the beach or a lake, in the woods or a large field. One bride may elect to have her photos taken at an abandoned factory or even on a railroad track. The location is as imaginative as you want to make it.
A Different View of the Couple
The day of the wedding, the bride and groom are understandably nervous, and have to be "on" all the time--greeting guests, making sure everything is flowing smoothly and that everyone is having a good time. The "Trash the Dress" photo and/or video shoot gives the bride and her groom, if he wants to be included, a chance to have more relaxed photos/video taken that show the couple's personalities. They can both literally "let the hair down" and have a good time together in a more intimate setting. Since a "Trash the Dress" video is usually shot more like a music video, it can be much more fanciful and expressive than what was filmed at the wedding.
Will My Gown Get Damaged?
As for "trashing" the dress, the gown usually doesn't get damaged, and if you get it dirty, a visit to the dry cleaners is often all that is needed to get it back into shape. Now, if you elect to swim in the ocean for your "Trash the Dress" shoot, you may be taking a risk, but running along the beach is pretty safe.
Granted, your mom may think you're crazy for trashing your dress, but you might also find out that secretly she would have loved to do something like that when she got married.
To learn more about the "Trash the Dress" trend just google the term and you'll get tons of examples. And If you decide to do it, just remember one thing--have a blast!
