Say Yes Q&A: Wedding Hair
Article provided by Alan Daniels Salon
Is there a certain hairstyle that seems to be most popular for Charlotte-area weddings?
The Traditional ‘Up Do’ continues to be a favorite among many brides Charlotte ones included. It offers a soft sophisticated appeal.
How much does the dress dictate the hairstyle?
A casual cascade of tresses along the cheeks with a scoop neck bodice; an upswept do with a swooping bang across the forehead with a halter; or an ‘Up do’ with all the hair swept away from the face with a funnel lace neck dress, all offer a different visual and complimentary look, but ultimately it is the brides choice of hairstyle.
How soon before my wedding should I get my hair cut?
Four weeks because fresh cut ends are difficult to put up.
Is it OK, to try a new 'do’ for my wedding, or should I stick to my usual look?
Staying with your usual look is suggested; otherwise you won’t look yourself in the pictures. Other considerations are the look the Bride is going for. Dramatic changes can create diversions from the “normal you”, if that is what you are trying to achieve, by all means be creative.
Should my bridesmaids all have the same hairdo?
NO! It is not necessary. Allowing for some flexibility in hairstyles; especially with varying hair lengths, facial features, and comfort is most important for your entourage.
If I'm hiring a stylist to fix my hair for my wedding, how many "practice runs" do I need to do?
At least 1 to 2 weeks. The further out the wedding, and based on the hairstyle and/.or color; the Bride may wish to test her looks with weather, time and visual comfort, so additional visits may be needed.
If I want to fix my own hair, is there a simple updo that I can do myself?
There are many products sold commercially to create ‘Up dos’, but the Bride must have basic skills and knowledge with the product to rely on its ability to achieve the look and maintain its purpose on this special day.
What are some of your favorite hair accessories for weddings?
With hairstyles and wedding taking on its own life; crystals, combs, flowers, glitter (sprayed on, hair extensions, etc.), ribbons or a variety of appliqués are among Alan Daniels suggestions. But by no means the limits.
What can I do about my frizzy hair on my wedding day?
Hair textures and manageability varies. Fine hair can be weighted down with “frizz control” hair sprays, while courser hair may benefit. An old remedy, used in moderation can work wonders: a small (less than a dime size) pat of petroleum jelly mixed with a drop of two of water, rubbed between the palms and lightly passed over the hair can hold it together throughout the wedding event. Remember: moderation in use and application is needed here.
I color my hair. Should I get my color done just before my wedding or should I do it sooner?
At least one week before. If you are making dramatic changes, you may wish to keep your 5 to 7 week schedule allowing for adjustment if a new color is selected and providing time to change or enhance within your schedule with success,
Any other great wedding hair tips you'd like to share?
Brides are usually under pressure at this time. Drastic diets, weight loss and stress can contribute to hair challenges, even skin blemishes. Careful and advanced planning along with sound reason is critical at this time. Talk with your professional and be specific about your style needs; take advice from your hair care professional if they warn against certain changes. If they have been servicing you for some time, they understand the stamina of your hair and will offer the best professional advice in your interest and satisfaction in mind. If you do not have a professional stylist, find one at least four to six months before the wedding day. |
